About Trickoteka Games Journal

Trickoteka Games Journal is a reading site for grown-ups who like games and want to understand them properly. Some of us came to it through a deck of cards at the kitchen table, some through a sports match with friends, some through the slot reels on a phone. What we share is curiosity about how games are built and a belief that a hobby is more enjoyable when you know exactly what you are dealing with.

What you will find here

The journal grew in two directions, and we have kept both:

The two halves have more in common than it might seem. A sensible budget, a habit you can keep and a calm attitude to luck help just as much at a card table as they do at the end of the month.

Who we write for

Everything about gambling on this site is meant for readers aged 18 and over. We assume you are an adult who has already decided whether games of chance belong in your life, and we try to help you see them clearly. We never suggest that betting is a way to earn money, and we never publish tips that claim to predict results. Laws on gambling differ a great deal between countries and regions, so please check the rules where you live before you play anything for real money.

The lifestyle half is for anyone who wants practical, unhurried reading: how to set up a simple budget, how to build routines that last, how to keep motivation from fading after the first week.

How we work

The journal is put together by a small team writing under pen names. None of us claims a professional title, and you will not find invented credentials here. What we do promise is care: we explain rules from the rulebook, keep examples simple and mark clearly when something depends on house rules or local law. Money articles are general information, not personal advice, and they say so. Our house style for game guides sets out the details, and Backstage at the Blog shows what happens behind each article.

Where to begin

New to casino games? Start with our guide for new online gamblers, then read Keep the Game Fun for the habits that keep play in proportion. Looking for something to play at home tonight? Browse the hobbies section. Want a quick money reset? The 50/30/20 budget rule is a gentle place to start.

Talk to us

We are glad to receive questions, fixes and suggestions for new topics at any time. You can reach the team through the contact page, and if you spot something we got wrong, our page on how we update posts explains what happens next.

Our working promises

Four promises behind every page

Simple commitments that shape how the journal is written.

  • Rules you can check

We explain games the way their standard rules describe them and flag common house variations.

  • Adults first

Gambling articles are written for readers over 18 and always mention budgets and local law.

  • No invented numbers

Every figure comes from a game's structure or a labelled example, never from a guess.

  • Readers in the loop

Questions and corrections from readers shape what we write and fix next.

The writers

Four pen names, one shared table

We write under first names only and claim no professional titles. What we bring is years of playing, reading rulebooks and keeping our own budgets in order.

  • Ferrand

    Card and tile games

Keeps a battered double-six set in his bag and settles every scoring dispute with a printed rules sheet.

  • Tibbald

    Casino and betting basics

Likes nothing more than tracing a payout back to the layout of a wheel or a deck.

  • Merewen

    Money and habits

Writes the budgeting and routine guides and insists every one of them ends with a small first step.

  • Amabel

    Editing and responsible play

Reads every draft before it goes live, rewrites the safer-play notes and looks after corrections.
